With cold and flu season ramping up, now is as good a time as ever to start up some easy and fun health initiatives in your office.

Instilling some programs is not only going to enhance the wellbeing of your employees, but it is also a fun way to promote camaraderie and community among workers.

While it may seem like starting a health program of any kind is a tough task, there are tons that are easy as pie. Also, happier and healthier employees make your office a more productive and pleasant place to be. That being said, it’s a win-win!

Easy Health Initiatives to Start in Your Office

Hydration Challenge

Experts recommend getting eight cups of eight ounces of water per day, but very few people actually consume that amount. A Harvard study, in fact, noted that more than half of American adults and children are not getting enough water on a daily basis.

So what better idea than to challenge employees to drink more water?

You can incentivize them with company branded water bottles and keep tallies of their daily intake. The benefits of being adequately hydrated include reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease, lessened levels of fatigue, lowered blood pressure, and a slowed aging process. What’s not to love?

Healthy meal promotion

Especially for busy individuals who are always on the go, it can be hard for them to cook healthy meals on a regular basis.

Especially with the holiday season coming up – which is typically filled with indulgences – encouraging a well-balanced diet is a must.

Have a forum where employees can share their favorite quick and easy healthy recipes or even host an in-office “healthy potluck” to help people get a jumpstart on cooking and eating healthy.

If it goes well, you could even consider make it a monthly recurrence.

Start walking meetings

If you have an office space where people can walk around outside, challenge each employee to have one “walking meeting” per week. This encourages them to get out, enjoy the fresh air, and get extra exercise.

Mandatory quiet time

At a designated time each week, ban meetings and encourage “quiet time” for employees to be at their desk focusing on work.

This could lead to more work being done efficiently. Doing this towards the beginning of the week can help employees get ahead on work, too, reducing stress for the rest of the week.

How a PEO Can Help

While all of these challenges are simple enough, they can make a big difference in the health and wellness of your employees.

Your PEO can help you in setting up these initiatives and assist in implementing them in your office. Especially with the holiday season ramping up to full swing, there is no time to waste.
